Christmas is weird. It used to be even weirder. This is proof.

I started collecting vintage Victorian Christmas cards years ago and sharing them with friends online, and the whole thing exploded. This site began with a tumblr blog (https://www.tumblr.com/blog/weirdchristmas), but there were stories to tell about those images, and Tumblr’s not the best for text. So here we are.

Then I decided I didn’t enjoy having free time, so I started a podcast.

A very brief FAQ:

Do you actually own all the cards you post?

If only. No. I do collect vintage Christmas cards, and I have a lot of them. But the most popular and weirdest ones are hard to find now. Krampus cards in particular go for at least $30 each online. So if you’re looking to start your own collection, expect to spend some serious cash.

Is your name really Craig Kringle?

Are you serious?

Where can I hear the podcast?

Search your favorite podcast delivery thing like iTunes or Google Music or whatever. If you search and can’t find me on your favorite one, let me know at weirdxmas@gmail.com, and I’ll spank them until they get it on there.

Can you send me a link to that one card I remember that you posted two years ago and that I can only vaguely describe?

I’ll do my best. I don’t mind requests like that, and I get them a lot. But my organizing system is pretty idiosyncratic, and I can’t remember when I’ve posted anything. If you saw it on Tumblr or Twitter, I have it somewhere, but it may take me awhile to find it. (One of my long term goals is to make a searchable, well-tagged collection of all the cards…but that takes time and effort, and I don’t get paid for this, you know. Moochers.)

Will you be on my podcast/radio show/youtube thing?

Sure! Email me at weirdxmas@gmail.com. I don’t check the comments on this page too often.

Can I give you money?

If you’re feeling generous, check out my Patreon page here where you can get all kinds of bonuses throughout the year. You can also buy me a “coffee” ($3 gifts) at Ko-Fi.com.

Or PLEASE LEAVE A WEIRD REVIEW ON APPLE PODCASTS OR YOUR FAVORITE PODCAST APP! Send me a note that you did (weirdxmas@gmail.com), and I’ll send you a sticker!

  1. I absolutely love your podcast! It’s everything I love about darker and pagan sides of the holidays. I would love to read for next year’s story. Thanks Craig!

    1. Thank you so much! I do my best to bring the odd. And I’ll put out a call on Tumblr/Twitter next year for volunteers for the story. I’d keep your name, but I’ll probably lose it. heh heh

  2. I have written a family holiday musical, “Don’t Call Me Santa!”, about Krampus leading the winter holiday giftgivers in a rebellion (“I’d rather rule at the South Pole than serve at the North!”). It fits in well with Tom Jerman’s Santa Claus Worldwide, though I only just learned about Jerman’s book (I completed the draft before COVID). I am hoping to get it produced this summer in Kent, Ohio, and maybe more from there. If we make it, I’d love to promote it on your show. I’m in the middle of your interview with Jerman and I think I found my way to roughly the same message he has about Santa and his relationship to other winter holiday giftgivers, but mine comes with peppy songs! Anyway, thought I’d put a bug in your ear about it. If you ever hear of it, then it’ll be time for me to be on your show. Thanks!
